Peanut Butter Recall Hits Home, Local Grocery Store

What started as a recall for institutional peanut butter, has now reached into home pantries.    Kellogg was the first to announce the possible salmonella link with its popular Austin and Keebler brands.  Now, a half dozen additional companies has announced recalls of products that contain peanut butter or peanut paste produced by Peanut Corporation of America’s Georgia plant.  The FDA is urging consumers to “postpone” eating foods containing peanut butter.

Goods produced by Hy-Vee Inc., Perry’s Ice Cream Co., the South Bend Chocolate Co., Ralcorp Frozen Bakery Products (which produces cookies for Wal-Mart), McKee Foods Corp. and Little Debbie have all been pulled from store shelves.

So far, the Salmonella typhimurium outbreak has sickened over 470, hospitalized nearly 100 and killed 6.
