The driver of the Concordia Parish school bus that rear-ended a city garbage truck will be cited for failure to maintain proper control of the bus. Police found no evidence that the driver attempted to stop the bus before it slammed into the garbage truck. The impact sent the truck 115 feet into a utility pole, the bus also came to rest about 40 feet from the crash site.
The crash occurred on October 8th, and sent several students and the driver to the hospital. The driver suffered the worst injuries, and underwent several surgeries.
“This tragic accident serves as a reminder that all of us, especially bus drivers, that we must be careful, cautious and alert while we transport our most precious commodity,” says Atty. Mike Koch. “It is ironic that the crash occurred just days before National School Bus Safety Week, and I hope that we can all learn from this horrific event. Further, I hope that all involved, especially the driver, make a speedy recover.” he added.
