An 18-wheeler flipped on the off-ramp of I-110 and North Street in Baton Rouge Sunday. A passenger, who was in the truck’s sleeper cab, was thrown from the vehicle. The driver was trapped inside. Both men were rushed to a nearby hospital. The passenger suffered only minor injuries, while the driver remains in critical condition.
The cause of the accident is not yet known, but police are inspecting to see why it occurred and to ensure the stability of the interstate columns after they were smashed by the big rig.
Accidents at this intersection are common say neighbors, and many question the ramp’s safety. One man who lives close to the ramp said, “It’s a dangerous intersection. Stuff like this happens very often. This is just one of the worst ones we’ve seen.” However, the DOTD has no plans to re-do the intersection.
