Car Runs Stop Sign, Crashes into Loaded School Bus

At 7:30 yesterday morning, a woman taking her children to school, ran a stop sign and plowed into the side of a Lafayette Parish school bus. The bus was transporting 15 St. Cecilia students at the time of the accident. Nine people, eight of which were children, were taken to local hospitals.

Neighbors and emergency personnel pulled the woman and her two children out of the crushed, flaming Impala. Lafayette Parish Police Department Spokesman Cpl. Paul Mouton was at the scene. He told the media,”It moved the bus, causing it to turn sideways and block Failla (Drive),” he said. “So for a bus to be moved, that’s pretty substantial.”

The driver of the Impala was cited for running a stop sign. All victims are recovering; however, several of the students were still unable to attend school today.
